One of the dhams of the famous Char Dham circuit, Jagannath Temple was built in the 12th century AD. A fine example of Oriya style of architecture, the temple is enclosed within two concentric walls, the Kuruma Bheda and the Meghnad Pachira. Another architectural feature of the temple is that it is constructed in such a way that no shadow of the temple falls on the ground during any time of the day. Inside the main sanctum of the temple, there's a carved wooden statue of Jagannath, flanking the idols of brother Balarama and sister Subhadra. It is suggested to dress modestly while visiting the temple.

 Chilka Lake*

Located 40 kilometers from Puri, gleaming Chilika Lake is one the world's largest brackish water lagoon. It is also counted amongst the largest lakes in Asia and is known for its immense bird population. Rare bird species, some of which are even listed in IUCN Red List, inhibit the lagoon. Sandpipers, flamingos, pelicans, shovellers and gulls are some of the bird species that can be seen here. When at Chilika Lake, one could take a boat ride and spot rare migratory bird species from Russia, Mongolia, Afghanistan and Ladakh. Irrawaddy dolphins diving playfully in and around the water can be spotted as well

Chandrabagha Beach, located close to the Sun Temple of Konark, is known for its marvellous sand art and cleanliness. Several myths and legends are associated with this place, and a week-long Chandrabagha Mela is organized here every year to honor the Sun God. In addition, every year during December to January, the Tourism Department of the Odisha Government hosts an annual International Sand Art Festival, coinciding with the popular Konark Dance Festival at the World Heritage Site. Visitors can enjoy peaceful strolls on the clean sandy beach, and also buy some ethnic sea-shell handicrafts and other souvenirs from the local vendors here.

The Tribal Museum in Bhubaneshwar's CRP Square is the most popular site to get acquainted with Odisha's tribal culture. Established in 1953, it is also known as 'Museum of Man'. Its galleries are rich with beautiful artefacts like traditional dresses, bead ornaments, tribal jewellery, musical instruments, hunting gear, weaponry and agricultural tools. Behind the museum are ornate replicas of traditional huts from tribal communities like Gadaba, Kandha, Santal, Saora and some other tribes demonstrating their way of life. Sacred to Lord Shiva, Lingaraj Temple, built in the 11th century out of sandstone, is an exclusive example of Kalinga Architectural Style. The presiding deity of the temple is known as Hari-Hara; Hari denotes Lord Vishnu and Hara meaning Lord Shiva. This architectural masterpiece is broadly divided into four halls - Garbha Griha (Sanctum Sanctorum), Yajana Mandapa (praying hall) Natya Mandapa (dance and music hall) and Bhoga Mandapa (where devotees can have the Prasad). One of the largest temples in the city, the temple complex features around one hundred and fifty subsidiary shrines. Only Hindus are allowed entrance into the temple. Also, it is suggested to dress modestly while visiting the temple.

Rajarani Temple

The Rajarani Temple in Bhubaneshwar gets its name from the local sandstone used to build it. Set amidst a well-maintained garden, this 11th-century temple is a small yet lavishly decorated site. It is known for its sculpted figures of various deities and especially the guardians of the eight directions, the Dikpalas, shown to be standing on lotuses with their mounts below. Starting from the East, the first one is Indra (lord of East), then Agni (South East), Yama (South), Nirriti (South-West), Varuna (West), Vayu (North-West), Kubera (North), and Isana (North- East). The temple is also famous for the tall and slender figures of Nayikas carved in high relief on the walls, engaging in various day-to-day activities. The temple is often compared to the temples of Khajuraho on account of the erotic sculptures found here.

Mukteshvara Temple

Sacred to Lord Shiva, Mukteshvara is a 10th-century temple and known for featuring the earliest work from the Somavamsha period. Also known as 'the gem of Odishan architecture', the temple is an epitome of architectural brilliance. Inside the temple, there are various relief panels, one of them depicts the musicians playing a variety of different instruments.
